Happy Hooker IV Fishing Charters is locally owned and run by Captain Marty Running. The Hooker fleet is comprised of a family of five, professional fisherman. Originally started in 1976 by Marty’s grandfather Captain Don Dahl, the Happy Hooker Charter boats have fished the cool, clear waters of Lake Superior for well over 40 years. The legacy of Captain Don Dahl lives on through the five Happy Hooker Boats that currently operate from Waterfront Marina in Duluth, MN.

Marty grew up fishing in Trout and Salmon derbies with his Grandfather Don. Marty enjoyed years of fishing with his grandfather until his grandfather’s passing in 1987.
Captain Riley Leslie

Riley may be the youngest in the fleet, but he’s been trained by the best. He spent summers as a young kid fishing with Captain Jon Dahl as his first mate and recently took over the boat. Riley is a natural born Lake Superior fisherman.
Captain Peter Dahl
Hooker Too
A lifelong resident of Duluth, Captain Peter Dahl grew up on the banks of the St. Louis River. Peter has been fishing since he was old enough to hold a fishing pole. As a young man, he fished with his father and uncle, trolling the waters of Lake Superior fishing for lake trout, salmon, and steelhead. Peter has been chartering on Lake Superior for over 33 years.

A fourth generation licensed captain, Captain Dave Dahl upholds a long line of fishing tradition in his family. Dave has fished Superior with his Grandfather, Uncle Jon, and father, since he was a kid. Dave has developed some of his own techniques, and he seems to have a knack for finding some of the really big fish.
Captain Matt Massie

Captain Matt Massie, Although not a blood relative, Matt has been with the Hooker family for many years. Matt has worked with many captains as a mate before becoming a captain himself. He has learned many of the tricks and invented some of his own techniques that puts him on a plane with the best. His boat “Five Star Hooker” is his pride and joy. Custom rigged and ready to fish
